The first COSCO 13,000 TEU vessel to call at US ports, COSCO Fortune arrived at the PCT Terminal at the Port of Long Beach in Californiaon March 16, 2014. COSCO Fortune entered the COSCO fleet in 2012 and was built by Hyundai Heavy Industries Ulsan Shipyard in South Korea. The deployment of this 13,000 TEU vessel in COSCO’s South China / US Southwest Coast Express (SEA) Service marks a new phase of COSCO’s commitment to serving the Transpacific trade.

With the ever-increasing scope of large ship tonnage in the Transpacific trade, COSCO is further growing the size of our vessels as we also grow organically to meet the needs of our account base. At the same time, COSCO is moving forward to improve our efficiencies and reduce our carbon footprint. Larger vessels like COSCO Fortune are able to carry more cargo efficiently, reducing the fuel footprint per tonne of cargo.

The Stevedoring Company and Pacific Maritime Service, located at Pier J of PCT, provided their full support. Their operations on COSCO Fortune were well organized in terms of shift arrangement, operational layout and terminal equipment arrangement. COSCO Fortune departed PCT on time in the afternoon of March 20,2014.
