Last July we welcomed a new President of World Ocean (America): Capt. TONG Guofeng. What you probably are not aware of is that Capt. TONG, while the captain of a COSCO vessel, played a critical role in a rescue on the high seas.

World Ocean’s Capt. TONG Guofeng, was then serving as the captain of the COSBRIGHT LAKE, a VLCC Tanker. When she received the distress call the vessel was loaded at 300,000 DWTs and underway. Capt. TONG and the crew responded immediately. After visually sighting the capsized fishing boat, the COSBRIGHT Lake stopped and began rescue operations. After a lengthy, concentrated effort, the fishermen were found and rescued.

Capt. Tong remembers vividly how challenging the rescue operation was at the time.

The quick, unselfish action by the Captain and crew of the COSBRIGHT LAKE saved these two lives. They exhibited leadership and decisive action in the best sense of maritime traditions.  The entire COSCO family is very proud of Capt. TONG’s leadership and the heroic action of the Captain and his crew.
